Anne has 38 years’ experience working as a legal secretary in Auckland law firms and has been passionate about law since completing her secretarial course in Auckland. Anne has hands on experience dealing with all types of legal correspondence, typing legal documents and all other aspects of being a top-level legal secretary, including assisting a partner in a law firm to carry out conveyancing settlements.

Barbara Stevenson

Barbara Stevenson brings a lifetime of experience to her role as tutor of our Fashion Design, Dressmaking, and Home Tailoring suite of courses. Barbara served her dressmaking apprenticeship in Wellington. She then went to Sydney and worked there while completing an apprenticeship at East Sydney Technical College. She ran her own fashion clothing business for 25 years. She has taught night school and has been tutoring with Stotts for over 26 years, and thus has a wealth of experience in helping people to successfully learn by distance.

David Sutton is a top quality tutor who brings together experience in business, teaching and academia. Gillian Dodson

Gillian Dodson brings a lifetime of experience working in Early Childhood Education (ECE) to her role as a tutor with us. Gillian has a Masters of Education degree and a certificate in Adult Learning and Teaching, as well as being qualified as a trained and registered teacher. Gillian has experience in both teaching and management in early childhood. Gillian has been the National Member Advisor for the New Zealand Childcare Association (Te Tari Puna Ora O Aotearoa) and has also lectured Bachelors and Diploma of Teaching ECE courses. Gillian draws on this wealth of experience in the arena of ECE to help her students make the most of their learning.

Jim Young

Jim Young FNZIM is a Project Management Professional (PMP) and PRINCE2 Practitioner who holds a MBA in International Management and a Doctoral degree in Business Administration. Initially educated at Hokitika District High School NZ and Duntroon Military College in Australia, Jim then served as a career officer in the NZ Army, and then managed a commercial transport organisation, after which he joined NZIM, becoming their Principal Consultant before establishing his own company, SkillPower Ltd., that specialises in project management advice, mentoring and training.
Jim has managed a wide variety of projects, from the design and construction of a multi-fuel pipeline in Wales to the logistic support for the South Pacific Games and South Pacific Forum in Rarotonga. He has written several papers and two substantial textbooks on project management, and developed a number of project management handbooks for organisations. Jim has recently published a book on project risk management – ‘Managing Murphy'.
He is familiar with most project management frameworks, including the PMI PMBOK and UK PRINCE2, and keeps up to date with developments in this emerging profession. Jim has developed and delivered customised project management training for 22 years to over 200 organisations locally and overseas – most more than once. Michael Tartellin

Dr Michael Tartellin holds degrees in veterinary medicine (BVetMEd) and physiology (BSc Hons) from the Royal Veterinary College in London. After graduating he commenced his career as a vet in North Lincolnshire, but it was only a couple of years before he returned to do a PhD at the Royal College. Emerging from his PhD with deeper questions about neuroanatony and neuroendocrinology, Michael moved to L.A. to join a team of postdoctoral students at the Brain Research Institute. After 3 years in L.A. Michael moved to Massey University Veterinary School, here in New Zealand. At Massey University Michael’s love of cats led to him developing a feline nutrition and behavior unit, of which he became the Director. It was during this time that Michael commenced teaching distance courses in animal behavior. After a very successful career Michael resigned from his position as Associate Professor and moved to Perth, Australia. In Perth Michael worked as an independent veterinary consultant, and his love of teaching and working with students saw him form a company called Catswhisker Communication. This company specialised in teaching distance courses in animal behavior and nutrition and also in providing dietary consultation with global pet food companies. Michael is also on the panel of the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medical Authority and he was involved in the teaching of vet nurses in Perth for a number of years.
Dr Michael Tartellin is a uniquely qualified veterinary scientist and educator who brings an immense degree of experience and expertise to his teaching. Often vets and vets nurses in New Zealand and Australia have completed some aspect of their studies with him as their lecturer. Nigel Sutton

Nigel brings an extraordinary range of credentials and experience to his role with Stotts, as the tutor of Freelance Journalism and Effective Communication and Professional Business Writing.
After completing double degrees (Law and Political Science) at the University of Victoria, Wellington, he worked as a tutor across a huge range of subject areas from Academic Writing and Referencing and Law through to Business and Sexuality in Society. This experience has advanced Nigel’s writing skills to the highest level. He is conversant in both academic and journalistic writing styles and techniques. Nigel has been working in distance education for the past six years and he brings this experience and passion to help students to succeed and realise their goals.
In his day-to-day senior management role, Nigel is responsible for a range of critical business documents and the management of a team of staff. Paula Oboyle

Paula Oboyle lives in Hastings and her background is in nursing, mostly in palliative care, in a hospice setting. Paula now works as a counsellor/psychotherapist, in private practice. She sees clients who bring a range of issues, but she specialises in grief and loss and working with those healing from the impact of living with domestic violence. In addition Paula also teaches part time at the Eastern Institute of Technology in Taradale, currently teaching the “Working with Trauma” module, to students from the counselling, psychotherapy and social work streams. She also supervises final year students in the counselling and psychotherapy clinic there.
Paula did her counselling and psychotherapy training through the Manawatu Polytechnic and the Eastern Institute of Technology, completing her basic training in 1999. She loves learning and since then she’s done lots of workshops, completed her degree and trained further in the Hakomi method of psychotherapy. Paula is working as an assistant tutor on the current Hakomi training, helping out in exchange for hearing the lectures all over again. In the past Paula has done extramural (distance) study through Massey University and The Open University so she knows of the challenges and strengths of distance learning.

Ruth Williams has over 16 years experience working as a distance tutor for Stotts. Ruth has attended numerous workshops and training sessions in beauty care during her 23 years of experience in this industry and she holds a Diploma of Beauty Therapy and Electrology. In addition to this expertise she has recently completed a Bachelor of Business Studies, which underpins her knowledge of beauty care as a business. Richard Adrian

Richard Adrian (he prefers to be called Dick) has been tutoring with Stotts for the past 23 years. He’s married with a daughter and two granddaughters. Dick holds a Diploma of Sports and Recreation, Swim Coach Certification, Ten Pin Bowling Coaching certification, A Royal Lifesaving Coaching Certificate, Bronze Medallion Trampoline Coaching Badge and a Bronze Gymnastics Coaching Badge!
Dick has also coached swimming and was the head coach of a swimming club for 4 years. Dick enjoys seeing students engage with the course and their own exercise programs.

Kerry Gosling

Kerry is a passionate interior decorator with a flair for interior design. As well as practical experience in the industry, working in retail and as a colour consultant, Kerry has many years of teaching experience, making her the perfect tutor to introduce anyone to interior decorating.
Kerry has been with us as a tutor since 2004, giving her a wealth of experience in the area of distance tutoring. She has also completed both our Interior Decorating (Level 3) course and our Interior Decor (Level 4) course, giving her first hand experience with the challenges and triumphs a student can face on these courses. She is a friendly and enthusiastic tutor who is always willing to help. Kerry also has plenty of other educational experience in the field of interior decorating, having completed several training courses by Orica about paint, as well as a course with Pacific Wall-coverings about wallpaper manufacturing and hanging, and she is constantly looking to expand her knowledge.

Heather Sutton

Heather comes to us as a tutor from a lifetime’s worth of office administration experience. She currently runs her own rural supply business and lifestyle block, for which she performs all office duties, but she has also worked in office administration roles all over the map.
Starting out at Gilby’s Business College in Wellington, where she learned all the tricks of the trade, Heather then went on to work in a veterinary hospital, then a factory office, and finally a law firm. During her time in these positions, Heather undertook a wide range of bookkeeping and administration tasks, making her an expert in the area.

Mary Davidson

With nearly a decade of experience in the hospitality industry, Mary Davidson is one of Stotts best qualified tutors. Since 1998, Mary has worked in various arenas throughout the hospitality industry. Beginning her career in various hotels and restaurants throughout Australia and New Zealand, Mary gained a broad understanding of kitchen and food styles, as well as taking on increasing levels of responsibility.

Mary then went on to bigger and better things, taking a position as Head Chef for a V.I.P client. She has also organised catering for up to 600 people, and operated a catering service for corporate clients. In terms of menu design and food production, compliance with regulatory body requirements, event catering and V.I.P function management, purchasing stock, customer satisfaction, and kitchen efficiency, Mary couldn’t be more qualified.

Daniel Toresen

Daniel Toresen is one of New Zealand’s most experienced private investigators. Since becoming a licensed private investigator in 1985, Daniel has been responsible for several high profile corporate investigations, including one for popular soft drink giant Coca-Cola Amatil in 2009. Daniel is a highly qualified professional, with a Masters degree in Security Management from Leciester University, as well as a qualification as a Certified Fraud Examiner. Throughout his career, Daniel has worked with many famous names, such as Fair Go, TVNZ, and Restaurant Brands (who manage KFC, Pizza, and Starbucks in New Zealand), on many important cases. He is a favourite with all of them. He has been the owner of Auckland Investigations Ltd, the Director at Paragon NZ, and is currently the co-owner of Thompson and Toresen.

His experience includes: risk assessment studies and audits, operational reviews, development of policies and procedures, white collar crime and fraud counter-measures, employee theft prevention, writing and publications, training programs, event management, incident reviews and litigation support. Daniel has been the head of several highly experienced and successful private investigator companies, and currently co-owns his own business. Colin Moore

After many years working as a physical education teacher, Colin’s passion for overseas travel, as well as outdoor activities, inspired him to change careers. After a move to Frankfurt, Colin began leading travel expeditions all over the world, from Africa to South America to Asia. This was soon followed by eighteen months leading ski travel expeditions in France. Colin has since worked in various parts of the travel industry all over the world, including a recent stint in the Cook Islands, working for a travel business and also in forming the Association of Cook Islands Tertiary Institutions and achieving its NZQA accreditation. Colin then moved his focus to the business side of travel, moving to New Zealand and becoming the owner and managing director of The Adventure Travel Shop. Under Colin this business was hugely successful, and he eventually sold it to House of Travel, who still own it today.

As well as this extraordinary amount of experience in the industry, Colin also has extensive experience in teaching in the areas of travel and tourism. From 1995 to the end of 2002, he was involved in “Travel & Tourism” education either with the ATTTO, or private or government training establishments. He is a member of the Aviation Tourism & Travel Training Organisation (ATTTO) Travel Advisory Group for Levels 3 to 5; a member of the ATTTO Travel Training Council; and is also responsible for the accreditation of all providers wishing to assess against NZQA tourism and travel unit standards. Colin has also taught part-time at Travel Careers & Training and the Sir George Seymour schools in Wellington, before becoming Campus Manager at Sir George Seymour from May 2009 to January 2010.
