Barbara Stevenson Barbara Stevenson brings a lifetime of experience to her role as tutor of our Fashion Design, Dressmaking, and Home Tailoring suite of courses. Barbara served her dressmaking apprenticeship in Wellington. She then went to Sydney and worked there while completing an apprenticeship at East Sydney Technical College. She ran her own fashion clothing business for 25 years. Gillian Dodson

Michael Tartellin
Dr Michael Tartellin holds degrees in veterinary medicine (BVetMEd) and physiology (BSc Hons) from the Royal Veterinary College in London. After graduating he commenced his career as a vet in North Lincolnshire, but it was only a couple of years before he returned to do a PhD at the Royal College. Emerging from his PhD with deeper questions about neuroanatony and neuroendocrinology, Michael moved to L.A. to join a team of postdoctoral students at the Brain Research Institute. After 3 years in L.A. Michael moved to Massey University Veterinary School, here in New Zealand. At Massey University Michael’s love of cats led to him developing a feline nutrition and behavior unit, of which he became the Director. It was during this time that Michael commenced teaching distance courses in animal behavior. After a very successful career Michael resigned from his position as Associate Professor and moved to Perth, Australia. In Perth Michael worked as an independent veterinary consultant, and his love of teaching and working with students saw him form a company called Catswhisker Communication. This company specialised in teaching distance courses in animal behavior and nutrition and also in providing dietary consultation with global pet food companies. Paula Oboyle
Paula Oboyle lives in Hastings and her background is in nursing, mostly in palliative care, in a hospice setting. Paula now works as a counsellor/psychotherapist, in private practice. She sees clients who bring a range of issues, but she specialises in grief and loss and working with those healing from the impact of living with domestic violence. In addition Paula also teaches part time at the Eastern Institute of Technology in Taradale, currently teaching the “Working with Trauma” module, to students from the counselling, psychotherapy and social work streams. Daniel Toresen Daniel Toresen is one of New Zealand’s most experienced private investigators. Since becoming a licensed private investigator in 1985, Daniel has been responsible for several high profile corporate investigations, including one for popular soft drink giant Coca-Cola Amatil in 2009. Daniel is a highly qualified professional, with a Masters degree in Security Management from Leciester University, as well as a qualification as a Certified Fraud Examiner. Colin Moore After many years working as a physical education teacher, Colin’s passion for overseas travel, as well as outdoor activities, inspired him to change careers. After a move to Frankfurt, Colin began leading travel expeditions all over the world, from Africa to South America to Asia. This was soon followed by eighteen months leading ski travel expeditions in France. Colin has since worked in various parts of the travel industry all over the world, including a recent stint in the Cook Islands, working for a travel business and also in forming the Association of Cook Islands Tertiary Institutions and achieving its NZQA accreditation. Colin then moved his focus to the business side of travel, moving to New Zealand and becoming the owner and managing director of The Adventure Travel Shop. Under Colin this business was hugely successful, and he eventually sold it to House of Travel, who still own it today. As well as this extraordinary amount of experience in the industry, Colin also has extensive experience in teaching in the areas of travel and tourism. From 1995 to the end of 2002, he was involved in “Travel & Tourism” education either with the ATTTO, or private or government training establishments. He is a member of the Aviation Tourism & Travel Training Organisation (ATTTO) Travel Advisory Group for Levels 3 to 5; a member of the ATTTO Travel Training Council; and is also responsible for the accreditation of all providers wishing to assess against NZQA tourism and travel unit standards.
